Description
Autographed Receipt Signed by James D. Smillie. This receipt is from Toppan Carpenter Casalier and Co., dated July 2, 1853, for four jobs done in June and July, including cutting the title for Continental Bank, cleaning Whitestown draft plate, cutting out the Rail Road title, and fitting blocks for Commercial Bank of Maryland. Smillie was paid $3.92 for the work. Receipt is approximately seven and one half inches by five inches and bears the impressed seal of Carson's Dalton M in one corner.
