Description

World's Columbian Exposition 1893 Tickets and More Souvenirs.
This lot contains the following Choice AU or better engraved tickets of Indian Chief, Lincoln, Columbus, and Washington plus the scarcer tickets of Franklin (only from the A Series), and Handel (only from the non-A Series) with a small piece of tape on the face in the left margin. There is also an ungraded Caxton Co. envelope that has been torn opened along the left edge. The Caxton Co. of Chicago bought all of the unused tickets after the exposition closed and then sold them as souvenirs in their own envelopes. These envelopes are seldom encountered in any state of preservation as they were often considered as a "throw away" at the time. The next item is an unused Goldsmith postal card of the Fisheries Building. Next, we see a blue Return Pass ticket (Doolin 20) with chipping on the back and an approximate half inch edge tear. The final piece is a ticket that was used to tour the grounds before the exposition officially opened on May 1, 1893. Therefore, this ticket is beyond the scope of the Doolin reference. This white cardboard ticket with serial number A86795 has an expiration date of March 19, 1893 and measures 86 by 38mm. This ticket was once mounted and has two creases. One of the creases breaks the cardboard. Overall, this is a nice grouping of paper items for this heavily collected exposition. (Total: 10 items)
