Description

Twenty-eight page offprint pamphlet of An Act to Provide a National Currency, 37th Congress, 3rd Session, February 23, 1863. This law, of course, was the Act of Congress which provided for the establishment of thousands of National Banks and also for the issuing of currency by those institutions secured by U.S. bonds. This law helped finance the Civil War and created the "hometown currency" referred to as Nationals, which is avidly collected today. A fine collateral item for the National collector. Document is sewn, but evidently removed from a larger compilation. Approximately 5.5" by 9".9" with unattached blue paper cover. Excellent.
