Description

President Theodore Roosevelt Signed Authorization for Replacement of a Lost Cherokee Nation Payment Warrant
This folder, containing the written record of the replacement of a payment warrant in the amount of $200.00 originally issued on December 7, 1896 to the firm of Marcus & Fears, contains the text of the necessary United States Senate legislation authorizing replacement of the lost warrant, signed by Clerk of the Senate Edw. Washburne and ratified on December 5, 1902 by Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation T.M. Buffington, as well as Assistant Executive Secretary of the Cherokee Nation A.B. Cunningham. Also included is a notarized affidavit signed in the Northern District, Indian Territory on December 1, 1902 in support of the issuance of a replacement warrant as well as the signed statement of U.S. Indian Agent J. Blair Shoenfelt certifying that the warrant had never been paid as well as the signed approval dated White House, Washington, February 21, 1903 in the hand of T. Roosevelt.

The T. Roosevelt signed attachment is reinforced at a lateral separation by restoration tape and is an ideal candidate for professional conservation.
