Description

Loading Riverboats Steel Engraved Plate Danforth, Wright and Company, New York and Philadelphia Imprint Approximately 6 by 2.75 Inches ND circa 1850s Not Graded.
A detailed engraving of many riverboats being loaded is on this steel plate. It is nicely preserved and remains lustrous. A great vignette with an interesting scene from the 1850s, this is one that we cannot recall ever seeing on an Obsolete note. The plate has an engraved vignette identification number of V46588 at bottom center and comes with its original ABNCo card storage envelope marked with the same vignette id number. Another number of P6 is crossed out with three small horizontal lines engraved on the plate and the number P6 on the envelope is also crossed out in pen. The back of the plate has a partial mark of John Sellers at back upper right. John Sellers and Sons of Sheffield, England, opened an office in New York in 1840 in order to supply quality steel and copper plates for American engravers. (Total: 2 items)
