Description

CDV PHOTOGRAPH OF GENERAL GEORGE B. McCLELLAN.
A superb organizer and loved by his men; but ultimately too timid to be a successful wartime commander. His reluctance to stand and fight led to rumors of his sympathy for the Confederate cause. Dismissed by Lincoln as commander of the Army of the Potomac after the disastrous Peninsular Campaign. He was called on a second time for the same position and again dismissed. In 1864, he ran against Lincoln as the Democratic Candidate and was soundly defeated. This CDV was produced and sold by C. D. Fredricks & Company of New York. A wonderfully sharp, near full-length photograph will McClellan identified in pen within the bottom margin as "Little Mac"; a disliked nickname he acquired due to his diminutive stature.
