One of Two Uncirculated $2 1928A Legal Stars
Fr. 1502* $2 1928A Legal Tender Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.While circulated examples of this star are often available, the 1928A $2 Legal star becomes truly rare in any grade above Extremely Fine and prohibitively rare in CU or better. To date, PCGS has yet to certify even one example in a higher grade than Extremely Fine 40, while PMG has encapsulated only two such examples, a single Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ and this piece, the lone Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. We have sold the Gem 65 example twice, the first time in the Flynn sale in 2008 where it realized $63,250 and the second time five years later when it fetched $88,125. With that note now locked away in a major small size holding, this note may offer the sole opportunity for many years for a collector to obtain any uncirculated example of this excessively rare star.
