War of 1812 $10 Treasury Note About Uncirculated

TN-14a Kagin TN-14a(1) Hessler X83C $10 Act of February 24, 1815 Treasury Note Clarke-Fox Double Signature Remainder PMG About Uncirculated 53 EPQ.
Treasury Notes of the War of 1812 is a burgeoning niche within the field of United States paper money with two recently released references on the subject. They are Treasury Notes of the War of 1812 by Donald H. Kagin, Ph.D. and U.S. Treasury Notes 1812-1865: An Illustrated History by Nicholas J. Bruyer. This double signature plate letter G remainder was printed on United States watermarked paper. It was boldly signed by Samuel Clarke and Edward Fox on behalf of the United States, but lacks the final signature of the Register at left and a serial number. This is one of the highest third-party graded notes of not only the Friedberg number, but also within Treasury Notes of this era in general. The example in this lot has also earned the coveted EPQ grade modifier due to its natural paper ripple that is observed on the back. Handling consists of a horizontal fold just below the top edge. There is also a vertical fold close to the back right edge. A small corner fold at back upper right is noticed, too. The new Kagin reference lists only 15 different TN-14a(1) notes. Our archives reveal that we auctioned a PMG VF 25 example with stains for $9,000 in our January 2024 FUN Auction and a PCGS Banknote 62 PPQ piece for $16,200 in our April 2021 CSNS Auction. Look for our current offering to hammer nearer the high-end of that range.
