Impeccable $50 1891 Treasury Note Proofs

Fr. UNL Hessler 1043 $50 1891 Treasury Note Face and Back Proofs PCGS Banknote Gem Unc 66 PPQ; Superb Gem Unc 67 PPQ.
Hessler 1043 is found on page 133 of the second edition of Gene Hessler's U.S. Essay, Proof and Specimen Notes. The portrait is of William Seward, Secretary of State from 1861-69. The impeccable Proofs in this lot were printed on India paper and mounted on cardstock. Both pieces have been carefully preserved over the years and thus they retained their white paper and dark inks. Signatures are of Tillman-Morgan, while the only signature combination used for circulation for the $50 Treasury Note was Rosecrans-Nebeker. We know of only one other Proof of this design and it has the signatures of Rosecrans-Huston. Our current offering has previously resided in two advanced collections, the Caine and the J.W. Walter Collections. A third collection can be added when the gavel falls tonight. (Total: 2 notes)
