Handsome 1880 $100 Silver Certificate
Fr. 341 $100 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Very Fine 30.Twenty four examples of this handsome 1880 Black Back $100 Silver Type are enumerated in the Track & Price census. We sold this note over a decade ago as a raw Very Fine, and mentioned professionally sealed edge splits. We can no longer see them through the holder, but PMG has commented on a "minor restoration" which we presume are of the aforementioned splits. The colors are excellent, and the overly large James Monroe portrait is sharp and clean. The black back is beautifully centered with all of its original color. The Track & Price auction results cover such a wide range of realizations for similarly graded notes that a true grip on the market is quite difficult. We feel quite confident with a six figure estimate.
