Description

Fr. 335 $50 1891 Silver Certificate Fine. As is sometimes the case with this issue, this still colorful note has been trimmed and a few inconsequential pinholes are also seen on this a popular type bearing the stately portrait of Edward Everett. Everett (1794-1865) was a famous orator of the 19th Century who served as a Congressman and Senator, Governor of Massachusetts, and as the Secretary of State in Millard Fillmore's administration following the death of Daniel Webster. He was also president of Harvard University. Everett spoke immediately before Lincoln at the dedication of the Gettysburg cemetery. His speech was two hours long as opposed to Lincoln's famous two minute speech.
