Superb Gem Unc 67PPQ 1891 $50 Silver
Fr. 334 $50 1891 Silver Certificate PCGS Banknote Superb Gem Unc
67 PPQ.We auctioned this beautiful Everett $50 with serial H166202 once before. That was in September, 2004 in the pre-third party grading days. We graded it at that time as Superb Gem New and described it as, "A beautifully margined, well embossed, strictly original Fifty Dollar Silver." PCGS Banknote has since graded it and they came to the same conclusions that we did in 2004. Worth noting, this is the first time this piece has appeared at auction since its 2004 debut. Track & Price enumerates 48 serials for Fr. 334. That figure includes the piece in this lot. Only three of those Fr. 334 notes now have grades at the 67 grade level, with none higher. A look at the entire Everett design of six different Friedberg numbers tell us that those same three discussed above are not only the nicest pieces for the Friedberg number, but also the nicest trio for the entire Everett design. Their closest competitor of the six different Friedberg numbers is a single PCGS 65 Fr. 335. We auctioned the PCGS 67PPQ Fr. 334 example with serial H166211 for $54,000 in June, 2020. Our current offer is just nine serial numbers removed from our June, 2020 offering. We fully expect to either reach or surpass the earlier 2020 price.
