Description

Rare & Evenly Circulated Everett $50 Silver Certificate

Fr. 329 $50 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Choice Fine 15.
The piece presented here is a very scarce $50 Silver which is a new addition to the current Track & Price Census of just 30 examples. Representatives of this number are seldom offered to the public, and when they are, Fr. 329 notes always command strong prices. A portrait of Edward Everett, famous orator and United States Secretary of State, is located at right. Everett gave a well remembered and lengthy speech after the Battle of Gettysburg which accompanied President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Bright red Treasury Seal color and even wear characterize this well circulated but intact example. We auctioned another PMG Choice Fine 15 graded representative of this number in June 2021 which had several impairments, and that piece brought $11,400. PMG mentions minor rust on our current offering which can most clearly be seen on the back.
