Description

Friedberg Plate Note Editions 1-12

Fr. 311 $20 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Extremely Fine 40.
This was the Friedberg plate note for editions 1 through 12 that were published during the years of 1953-89. The last time that this $20 Silver crossed the auction block was when we offered it at our May 1993 auction in Rosemont, Illinois. This is a very nice example that has the appearance of a higher grade. We mentioned that the folds in the body were light and the paper was bright in our description in 1993 long before it was encapsulated. It remains true to those statements today as it resides in a comment free third party holder. PMG has graded only four equal and four higher with none above the numeric grade of 58 out of the 80 that they have inspected. This is the Friedberg number usually chosen to represent the Decatur $20 Silver type, so why not add to your collection one of the nicest that was also the plate note in twelve different editions of the Friedberg reference?
