Gorgeous Tombstone $10 Silver 66 EPQ

Fr. 299 $10 1891 Silver Certificate PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
A gorgeous $10 Silver with paper originality and ideal color. PMG has graded only four equal and a single piece higher and that by one grade point. This note first appeared at auction at the ANA 1984 Spring Convention. This was quickly followed up by an appearance at the 1984 Memphis International Paper Money Show auction. However, its next appearance at auction would not be until our August 2010 ANA auction. Vice President Thomas A. Hendricks served in President Grover Cleveland's first administration. Hendricks died at his home in Indianapolis on November 25, 1885, after less than nine months in office. This led to Hendricks' portrait being put on a $10 Silver Certificate framed within a tombstone-like enclosure with an arc top. The "Tombstone" moniker for this design was coined shortly thereafter.
