Strictly Original About Unc 55 PPQ Fr. 289

Fr. 289 $10 1880 Silver Certificate PCGS Banknote About Unc 55 PPQ.
A note that was part of our very first paper money auction in November 1990 in St. Louis at the National and World Paper Money Convention. It was lot 1256 and in those pre-third party grading days when notes could actually be held, we described it as being attractive and strictly original. The same is still true today as it has earned the PPQ grade modifier. It is a plate letter D note and is well margined on all four sides. Our close examination finally detects just a trace of handling through the PCGS Banknote holder. Ideal color is also observed on this $10 Silver that is the last note in a run of Fr. 289 notes with all of the third party graded examples earning grades in the 55 to 65 range. This note had a second auction appearance in 2011 where it traded hands for $13,800. Better type notes in high grades produce stiff competition between bidders and we look forward to this very nice representative hammering in the five figure range.
