Gorgeous Porthole Fr. 282 $5 Silver
Fr. 282 $5 1923 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New
67PPQ.A gorgeous Porthole with many splendid traits including the fact that this example is less than 1 mm away from possessing perfect centering. We also observed ideal inks, white paper, and natural paper ripples on this $5. Its earliest appearance in the collector community that we can find is when it was listed on a prominent Gulfport, Mississippi, dealer's fixed price list from the 1980s. This is only the second auction offering for this $5 Silver with serial A799985B. It comes from a short run of fellow Uncirculated notes in Track & Price. However, only two of those pieces have earned a third party grade of 67PPQ/EPQ. One note is the PCGS 67PPQ example in this lot and the second note is a PMG 67 EPQ. We auctioned the former and current offering for $12,000 in May 2024 and the latter for $14,400 in January 2021. Since 2024, only one other 67 EPQ Fr. 282 note has been auctioned. The last time it crossed the auction block, it earned a winning bid of $16,800 in November 2025. Look for the example in this lot to continue the string of strong winning bids.
