PCGS Fr. 281 Grading 68PPQ - Alone at the Top of the Population from Either Service
Fr. 281 $5 1899 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New 68PPQ.A simply spectacular note just as one would expect for a 68PPQ personality type note from PCGS. They have graded 451 Fr. 281s with this note the lone 68; there are only three 67s below it. In fact, for all the 1899 $5s running from Fr. 271 through Fr. 281 there are only this note and two others graded 68...there are no 69s. PMG's statistics are quite similar, they have graded 547 Fr. 281s with two 67s and no 68. PMG has graded only two 68s for all the Chief numbers combined. Every possible positive adjective can be applied to this breathtaking type note. This note and two of the other four 68s of different Friedberg numbers have auctioned in the last five years. All have clustered right around $40,000 a number that we expect will be exceeded this evening.
