Gorgeous Five Dollar Educational PCGS 67PPQ
Fr. 269 $5 1896 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ. PCGS has graded this note and four others at this level with none higher. The note is a true beauty with all the technical and aesthetic merits that one associates with the Superb grade. It also boasts sharp print quality with perfect inking. Many $5 Eds were a bit over-inked, and the exceedingly busy engraving often appears muddy. While that does not affect the technical grade, it certainly impacts eye appeal. This piece is as perfect as they get in this regard. We sold another Fr. 269 in a PCGS 67 holder in our September 2007 sale where that example realized $40,250. If this note does not reach that level, it will certainly come extremely close.Auction Info
