Fr. 268 $5 1896 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New
67PPQ.A perennial collector favorite, this $5 Educational Silver certificate has a marvelous detailed panoramic vignette that occupies virtually the entire face of the note. It is titled Electricity Presenting Light to the World and was adapted from a painting by Walter Shirlaw. The back features portraits of U.S. Grant in civilian clothes and General Philip Sheridan. The note embodies all of the superlatives suggested by its lofty grade including great original paper surfaces, bold printing, striking colors, and excellent margins and registration. In October 2022 we auctioned a note at the same grade level, where it achieved $28,800. We expect that this note will meet or exceed those results tonight.
