Gorgeous Superb Gem $5 Educational
Fr. 268 $5 1896 Silver Certificate PCGS Banknote Superb Gem Unc
67 PPQ.The allegorical theme on the $5 Educational is Electricity Presenting Light to the World, also known as Electricity as the Dominant Force in the World. The design, featuring Electricity personified at center holding a lighted bulb illuminating several other allegorical figures, was adapted from a painting by Walter Shirlaw. Gorgeous detail graces this nicely printed, well-margined example, displaying great color. Not common in this state of preservation, with few Superb Gems offered in recent years. According to Track & Price, this piece is new to the census but it's certainly at least the equal of the PMG 67 EPQ example that brought $38,400 in our 2021 FUN auction.
