Description

Fr. 267 $5 1891 Silver Certificate PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ.
At this grade level, this type is far scarcer than the 1886 variety with the Silver Dollars on the back. Due to the popularity of the Silver Dollar Back, the earlier type consistently realizes around $7,000 at the 58 level. These 1891 Fives, with identical face designs, are considerably rarer, yet they realize only about $2,500 at this 58 grade level. The census numbers are borne out by PCGS's population report, which shows 17 Silver Dollar Backs graded 58, against only ten 1891s. Value and rarity can be quibbled over all day; what cannot be debated is the exceptional quality of this piece. It is 100% fully bright, ideally centered on both sides, and displays wonderful original paper wave, which can be seen simply by looking at the note, or if you wish, by reading the holder which states, "Premium Paper Quality."
