Description

Superb Gem New Silver Dollar Back Fr. 262

Fr. 262 $5 1886 Silver Certificate PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ.
We were pleased to examine this example before it was sent to PMG. Our description of the raw note read, "Beautiful centering and deep, original embossing as well as full, flashy colors and snow-white paper all combine on this much less available Silver Dollar Back number. Fewer than 80 examples are known of Fr. 262, making it one of the scarcer pieces of its type. By comparison, just under 300 Fr. 263s are known. This note is a new serial number that drops right into the run of about a dozen known Uncirculated examples. None are likely nicer than this utterly pristine piece." PMG agreed fully with our Superb Gem grade, even bestowing the coveted "Exceptional Paper Quality" qualifier along with the Superb Gem New 67 grade. Heritage has sold this note twice before as a raw note in 2006 for $46,000 and when it first arrived in its PMG 67 EPQ holder as part of the Jupiter Collection in September 2008. At that time it realized $74,750. Neither grading service has as of yet graded a 68 of this number, and it is not likely that either will.
