Fully Margined Well Preserved $2 Educational
Fr. 248 $2 1896 Silver Certificate PCGS Banknote Gem Unc 66
PPQ.A fully margined, well preserved plate letter C $2 Educational, this offering made its first recorded numismatic appearance on a 1976 fixed price list. Its first and last recorded auction appearance was almost 40 years later in 2015. PCGS Banknote has graded five Fr. 248 notes at the 66 PPQ grade level, with just three higher. PMG has examined only nine graded higher and all by a single grade point. The note in this lot has serial number 12087779 and comes from a run of well preserved Uncirculated examples. The last PCGS Banknote 66 PPQ example that we auctioned had serial number 12087717 and realized $16,200 at our May 2024 CSNS auction. Since then, we have offered a PMG 66 EPQ Fr. 248 with serial 12085278 which realized $20,400 at our September 2024 Long Beach auction.
