Description

Fr. 244 $2 1886 Silver Certificate Superb Gem New. Another absolutely gorgeous note from the Trask Collection, this Large Brown Seal Hancock is not a truly rare note, but it's quite a bit scarcer than the normally seen Fr. 242. Nearly 300 Fr. 242's are known, and just about a hundred Fr. 244's. The numbers become even more disproportionate in the higher grades, as two long runs of uncirculated 242's are known, but these 244's in top condition are truly scarce. This example has fresh, original paper surfaces, broad, even margins and impeccable, bright colors. Even in this magnificent collection, this note is a visual standout. We sold an identical Fr. 244 as Lot 16543 of our September Long Beach auction. That note realized $4140, and we would expect this flawless piece to realize at least as much.
From the collection of Malcolm A. Trask.
