Description

Fr. 242 $2 1886 Silver Certificate PMG Good 6 Net. General Winfield Scott Hancock's portrait appears on these notes. Hancock (1824-86) was graduated from West Point and served in the Mexican and Seminole Wars prior to his service for the Union during the Civil War. He ran unsuccessfully for President against James Garfield in 1880. Rusts and splits were mentioned by PMG as the reason for the net grade. This piece faces up well for the grade. It was kept folded in a wallet for some time based on the appearance of the back.
