Attractive Uncut Sheet of Four Black Eagles with Selvage Included

Fr. 226a $1 1899 Silver Certificates Uncut Sheet of Four PMG Choice Very Fine 35 Net.
This attractive uncut sheet of four $1 Silvers is a representative of the very first number for Black Eagles, Fr. 226a. Our current offering has thankfully retained the entirety of its selvage, as evidenced by the fact that the face plate number 12776 and the back plate number 13192 are still present along the bottom of the sheet on their respective sides. Four cutting guideline arrows, two on the face printed in black ink and two on the back printed in green ink, are also included in the selvage. Yet another selvage feature is the presence of several tradesmen's initials at upper left on both the face and back. Siderographers, plate finishers, and plate printers all added their initials to sheets during this era via a steel punch which was hammered into the printing plate. PMG comments on restoration which refers to the reinforcing of a horizontal fold between the first and second notes in the sheet. This restoration was skillfully executed and is only visible when the piece is backlit.
