Fr. 225 $1 1896 Silver Certificate Very Fine. This One Dollar Ed gives the appearance of a full Extra Fine when viewed from the face, but one quarter of the back is soiled, apparently from being carried in a wallet as a souvenir. The history and value of this note is considerably enhanced by its Spanish-American War reference written in the back margin, "Only One Dollar Bill in First U.S. Government War Pay. $186.65 at Camp Thomas, Ga, July 5, 1898.
