Description

Fr. 225 $1 1896 Silver Certificate Manuscript Note Extremely Fine. Clearly written around the back margins are the words, "Only one dollar bill in first U.S. Government War-Pay. $186.65 at Camp Thomas, Ga, July 5th 1898." The face of the bill is beautifully clean, as is the back but for one quarter, which is a bit soiled due to the note's having been folded in quarters and carried in a wallet as a souvenir. This would easily be a $500 note without the contemporary, historic inscription which we feel adds considerably to its value. Est. 750up
