Description

1896 $2 Silver Certificate, Educational Note, Fr-247, CU. Superlatives come easily when attempting to describe this outstanding note. The paper and colors are bright, fresh, and original, with deep and strong embossing. Beautifully centered on the front, but shifted high on the back but well clear of the design. The only minor flaws are a light 1 1/2-inch crimp in the paper at the upper right, from the S in DEPOSITED to the 1 in the serial number, and a soft lower right corner tip. The colors and originality of the note scream for a higher grade that, for all appearances, this note seems to deserve. The eye appeal is outstanding, and the low serial number is just icing on the cake. This note looks better than many others with a higher technical grade, and would be a pleasing addition for the collector who appreciates originality and is willing to step up and bid aggressively for this beauty.
