Description

Fr. 214 $10 1879 Refunding Certificate PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
A circulating bond, this type was sold through post offices that was popular with speculators and national banks due to the interest that they accrued. Interest was stopped at $21.30 by an act of Congress in 1907. These "notes" with their unusual dimensions have always been popular. This is a lovely example for the grade as the handling visible through the third party holder is limited to three vertical folds, a horizontal center fold, and a counting crinkle. This circulation, along with the embossing of the date, shows the paper originality of this Fr. 214.
