Description

Vibrant Near Superb Rainbow Jackass

Fr. 96 $10 1869 Legal Tender PCGS Banknote Gem Unc 66 PPQ.
A broadly margined plate letter C Rainbow $10 example, this note has been carefully preserved and therefore the colors have remained vibrant. This is the first Friedberg number (96-113) for the "Jackass Notes." Legend has it that a disgruntled engraver, who was a Democrat, engraved the lower center eagle to resemble a head of a jackass/donkey, when the note is turned upside down. Last January, we sold an equivalently graded PCGS example for exactly $18,000.
