Description

Well Preserved Gem $2 Rainbow

Fr. 42 $2 1869 Legal Tender PCGS Banknote Gem Unc 65 PPQ.
A well preserved Rainbow $2, this is from the first series of this denomination to carry a portrait of Thomas Jefferson. The combination of dark inks and blue-tinted paper on this piece gives rise to its nickname. Furthermore, this example is neatly centered and the same can be said for the front to back registration. Our inspection also finds the serial numbers display embossing on the back. Overall, it is a very desirable and fresh deuce that is new to the census. In January 2024, our most recently offered example in this third party grade, a PMG 65 EPQ with a $25,000 and up estimate, realized $38,400 - the most ever paid for a Fr. 42 at auction. One can look forward to a similar result for our current offering.
