Description

Fr. 26 $1 1875 Legal Tender PCGS Banknote Gem Unc 66 PPQ.
Serial number K5596051 was first recorded when it was in the inventory of dealer Louis S. Werner, who was voted into the ANA Hall of Fame in 1982. Our current offering marks only the third recorded auction appearance for this $1 Legal. It is from plate letter C and has a partial plate number at bottom center. PCGS Banknote has graded only one Fr. 26 equal and only one other higher. A comparison with the examples listed in Track & Price shows that the piece in this lot is just outside the top ten graded by the major third party grading services. In January 2025, we offered a PMG 66 EPQ example which realized $4,560.

Estimate: $4,000 - up.
