Fr. 21 $1 1875 Legal Tender PCGS New 60. A little light stain around the edges, visible almost entirely from the back, held the grade down on this important rarity. This is a rare note in any grade, with only about two dozen examples known to exist. CAA has sold roughly half of the known examples in our previous 40+ sales, and only 4 of them were higher grade than this note. Opportunities to purchase notes of this number come along at the rate of about one per year, and should not be passed over lightly if you want to own one. This note, in spite of its minor problem, faces up like a Superb piece due to its stunningly bright red overprint and broad face margins. The overprint on this series is almost universally light pink. Our consignor has owned this note since its last market appearance as Lot 1076 of the 1984 Memphis auction.Auction Info
