Description

Fr. 18 $1 1869 Legal Tender PMG Choice Fine 15.
The notes of the 1869 issue are known as "Rainbows" due to the green, red, and blue inks that were used to thwart counterfeiters. The design placed number 41 in the Bowers and Sundman book, 100 Greatest American Currency Notes. This was the first appearance of George Washington's portrait on a federal $1 note. His portrait appeared previously on many Obsoletes.
