Fr. 151 $50 1869 Legal Tender PMG About Uncirculated 55.Only a grand total of 64 examples of the Rainbow $50 are enumerated in the Track & Price Census. PMG and PCGS combined statistics show that they have graded only four pieces higher with none equal to tonight's offering. Our archives show that we have offered only a single Fr. 151 third party graded higher and none equal. Our higher graded piece was a PCGS 58PPQ example and it realized $176,250 in January 2013. This is the first time that the current note with serial number Y405621 has been at auction since the August 1983 ANA. Previous owners of this note before then, were famed paper money collectors George Blake, William A. Philpott, and Bob Medlar. This is a beautiful AU and a note certainly worth stretching for to acquire. Do not wake up the next day, lamenting, "Why didn't I bid one more increment?"
