Fr. 150a - One of Seven Known Examples
Fr. 150a $50 1863 Legal Tender PCGS Apparent Fine 15.More than seven years have passed since this piece was last offered at auction. That appearance included the following description, "One of only seven notes listed, one of which is in the San Francisco Fed. This one has been professionally restored at the top and bottom edges, but none of the design elements have been touched by the restoration. The colors, particularly the sensitive red and green inks, are amazingly bright, imparting the look of a higher-grade example to this very rare note. Only two of the other known notes grade higher than this piece, with only one uncirculated note known." The two finer examples referenced in the description have since sold, a PCGS 63 for more than $180,000, and a similarly repaired Very Fine 20 which realized $43,125 in our 2007 September Long Beach Auction.
