Description

Fr. 197 Correspondence Concerning the Original Plates. A Treasury Department National Currency Bureau letter dated February 5, 1864 detailing tiny "private marks" that have been placed on the plates for the one year 5% $20 Interest Bearing note of 1864. This letter is signed by James Duthie. It details his placing of miniscule marks on the plate prior to production of the notes. The two vignettes have been clipped from a proof sheet and glued to the letter to illustrate the placement of the miniscule marks. The only item of its type that we have ever seen and an irreplaceable piece of currency history that belongs in a definitive collection.
