Description

$1,000 Gold Off the Market for Over Three Decades

Fr. 1219e $1,000 1907 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 30.
A regal $1,000 Gold with serial number D82926, this is one of the few of this Friedberg number to have a five-digit serial number. Track & Price has recorded 49 serial numbers for Fr. 1219e, however, nearly a third are permanently impounded in collections of the Federal Reserve Banks, the Smithsonian Institution, the ANA, or have never appeared at public auction. Our current offering made its first foray into the numismatic world at large by being listed on a couple of fixed price lists in the early 1990s, then quickly followed by a couple of auction appearances, with the last occurring in 1992. Since then, it has been held by our consignor. It finally returns to the marketplace to be enjoyed by a new generation of collectors. It has the comment of minor restoration on the PMG back label, but backlighting the note reveals nothing obvious through the third party holder. The last PMG 30 example to visit the auction block was offered by us last September. It had minor repairs and realized $28,800. We feel that the same, or more, will be in order this time, too.
