Unique Fr. 1219b 1907 $1,000 Gold Certificate

Fr. 1219b $1,000 1907 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 25.
This extremely rare number is listed in Friedberg as "1 known." It was unknown until this note appeared at auction in 1990 as part of the Jim Thompson Collection. Our first offering of this note was in February 2005 when we auctioned the Taylor Family Collection. We would go on to auction this piece three more times in September 2008, in January 2013, and in January 2014. Not a single example has come out of the shadows since then, and there are no examples known in government collections. The winning bid in January 2014 was $199,750. This note has remained unique since its 1990 auction appearance. The colors are excellent, as are the margins, and the surfaces are 100% natural. The note has a dozen or so scattered pinholes and PMG has added to the back label that this unique example has "Good Color, Great Margins." This evenly circulated mid-grade note's highest winning bid in our auctions was $287,500 in September 2008. The uniqueness of this $1,000 Gold Certificate should propel this charming note into that range once again.
