Incredibly Rare Fr. 1218e $1,000 Gold Certificate

Fr. 1218e $1,000 1882 Gold Certificate.
Series 1882 $1,000 Gold Certificates were issued from 1882 to 1906 with a total of eight different signature combinations. With a total print run of 8,000 notes, the Rosecrans-Nebeker signature combination represented just 4.3% of all the 1882 $1,000 Gold notes issued during that time period. William S. Rosecrans and Enos H. Nebeker were in office together for just over two years, from April 1891 to May of 1893. Their joint tenure dates point to a likely issue date, a time when financial strife was building momentum for the Panic of 1893.
This incredible discovery brings the number of known notes to five, though our research has shown that this example is likely one of only two available to collectors. Two of the pieces in the census to the Federal Reserve Bank Collections in San Francisco and Chicago. the third is pictured in the early editions of the Friedberg book, but despite our efforts to track it down, it cannot be located, even with a reward being offered just for the knowledge of its whereabouts. The fourth was offered by us a few years ago and realized more than $880,000. PMG Very Fine 30.
