Description

One of the Finest Known 1882 Gold Certificates

Fr. 1210 $100 1882 Gold Certificate PCGS Extremely Fine 45.
A scarce Friedberg number is offered here, with 31 examples recorded in the Track & Price Census, of which four are held in institutional collections. Always popular with a pleasing use of red, gold, blue, black, and orange ink, this note features a portrait of Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton, known as "Old Bullion" for his support of hard money policies, on the face and a small but dynamic vignette of an eagle holding a fasces in its talons on the back. This is a very attractive note with few signs of handling or circulation and great visual appeal. PCGS recorded a 45PPQ example and PMG lists a Extremely Fine 45 note (which is not squarely cut) as its highest recorded grade example, making this offering one of the finest available examples.
