Fr. 1204 $100 1882 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 25.One of the most exciting notes in our CSNS auction, serial number C38240 is one of just five pieces recorded for this Friedberg number. A look at older censuses reveal that only one serial number has been added since at least 1994. It must also be pointed out that two of that quintet are permanently off the market in the hands of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and the Smithsonian Institution. Of the three notes remaining in private hands, one is in a PMG VF 20 Net holder, which last sold at auction in 2013 for almost $100,000, a second is graded PMG 40 EPQ and we auctioned it for $180,000 in January 2024, and the third is our current offering in a comment free holder that brought $75,000 in our October 2022 auction. That result should be easily achieved once again, if not exceeded.
