Description
One of Eleven Fr. 1201 $100 Gold Certificates Known
Fr. 1201 $100 1882 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 20.
Fr. 1201 is an excessively rare Friedberg number which is seldom
offered. Eleven examples are currently listed in the Track & Price
census, four of which are permanently impounded in the collections
of various Federal Reserve Banks. This marks only the fifth
appearance of this Friedberg number in a public auction in the last
quarter century. Tonight's offering is a pleasing mid-grade with
sharp ink colors on both face and back along with four solid
margins. PMG has noted a small minor ink stain and a couple of
closed pinholes, but those flaws are indeed quite trivial when
considering the rarity and desirability of this important $100 Gold
Certificate. This example last crossed the auction block in 2023
when it garnered a winning bid of $66,000 in our 2023 FUN Currency
Signature Auction.
Estimate: $60,000 - up.
