Fr. 1178 $20 1882 Gold Certificate PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45.This handsome and utterly problem free, Extremely Fine gold certificate bears a razor sharp portrait of James Garfield at the right. Garfield was shot on July 2, 1881 and lingered, clinging to life, until September 19 of that year. The plates for the 1882 Series note were prepared during the mourning period for the late president, so he was a natural choice for them.
