Gorgeous Fr. 1175a Triple Signature $20 Gold Note - The Second Finest $20 Triple Signature Known
Fr. 1175a $20 1882 Gold Certificate PMG Choice Extremely Fine
45.This marks only the fourth appearance of this lovely Triple Signature $20 Gold Certificate at public sale. It was long listed in the census as one of only two Triple Signature notes graded as Uncirculated based on its first auction appearance back in 1974, when it was listed as CU. Even at the listed grade assigned by PMG, it is easily the second finest Fr. 1175a, behind one example that has been graded as Uncirculated by both PMG and PCGS, with that note having gone from a PMG 64 to a PCGS 64PPQ, and having last been sold for $199,750 in 2014. The colors here on both front and back are vibrant, and the eye appeal is that of a fully new note. In fact, through the holder, it is impossible to see just why PMG did not grade this piece substantially higher. We expect this lovely note, which last realized $26,400 in our 2024 FUN Currency Signature Auction, to attract some serious competition before the hammer falls tonight.
