Description
Ex: Tom Flynn 1914 $20 Richmond District Red Seal
Fr. 956b $20 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PMG Very Fine 30.From our auction of Tom Flynn's exceptional collection where the description was written, "Richmond is one of the rarest districts for Red Seal Fed Twenties, with only five examples of this 'b' type recorded, and only seven of the 'a' type. Tom's note, which is new to the census, raises the 'b' type to six, and the total for all Richmond Red Seal Twenties to a mere thirteen. None of those thirteen notes are reported to be Uncirculated, and this VF 30 is the highest grade yet recorded by either grading service for the six known Fr. 956b's. The note is a beauty, with broad margins, a strong red overprint, and the eye appeal of a full XF piece." That auction will be remembered as the perfect storm where prices for these red seals attained stratospheric levels likely to never be duplicated again. In the ensuing six years several more notes have been located, none of which have topped the Very Fine grade.
