Spectacular Cleveland $1,000 FRN - Finest Known for the Fr. 1133-D Number
Fr. 1133-D $1,000 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG Gem Uncirculated
66 EPQ.A monumental offering for FRNs, this magnificent $1,000 Cleveland district piece is one of only 14 examples recorded in the Track & Price Census. PMG has graded only eight representatives of this number, according to the PMG Population Report, with this note being the finest encapsulated of that count. In fact, this piece has achieved the highest grade of any Fr. 1133-D example currently recorded. This pristine representative possesses myriad impressive attributes which separate it from the other known notes of this number. We can discern deep embossing of the dark blue serial numbers, Treasury Seal, and "The United States of America" at top center. Gorgeous natural paper wave accentuates completely original, brilliant white surfaces. Ample margins complement excellent face to back registration. Both the portrait of Alexander Hamilton on the face at center and the depiction of a bald eagle and United States flag on the back are well printed and bold. This plate C example was first offered by us in September 1997 as part of our Fall Auction, where it became part of The Thomas Collup Collection. It then remained off the market for nearly three decades before being offered by us again in September 2023. It was purchased by our current consignor for $228,000. This trophy note represents the highest issued denomination available to collectors for Large Size Currency, and one would find the challenge of procuring a better representative of this number likely impossible.
