Description

Spectacular Chicago District $500

Fr. 1132G $500 1918 Federal Reserve Note PCGS Choice About New 58.
A great note in all respects, and the highest grade $500 Federal Reserve Note to be offered to the collecting community in several years. This piece has a distinguished pedigree, having been obtained by our consignor from the Amon Carter, Jr. holdings in May of 1984. For many years, in fact, this example served as the Friedberg plate note. It has long been graded as uncirculated, and certainly has the appearance and eye appeal of a fully new note, but PCGS has chosen to be ultra-conservative here in grading this lovely high denomination specimen Choice About New 58. For those who collect by district, this is the only Chicago $500 FRN graded to date by PCGS, while PMG has graded 10, with only one coming in higher than Very Fine (with that one note a 53). Nicely centered, bright, and flawless for the grade, a wonderful note now available after more than a quarter century in one collection.
